yep. put simply, the elise is a sports car, the exige is a race-bred car.
The exige is the revised model of the elise. it has lightweight alloy wheels, aerodynamic spoiler and extra air intakes.
The performance stats are similar, both have 1.8 litre engines, 190hp, and a top speed of 150mph. however, the exige has a faster acceleration rate: 0-60 in 4.7, compared to the 0-60 time of 5.1 with the elise
if you're thinking of buying, the elise is much more practical, with leather seats, radio, air-con,etc. whereas the exige was built for the track, and is much simpler on the inside to reduce weight
Hope this has helped:)
Does anyone know the differences between a Lotus Elise and a Lotus Exige?
The Lotus Elise has a removable top. The Lotus Exige does not.
The Elise has 190 hp the Exige has 220 hp. The Exige is more a racecar type than the Elise but both are track oriented.
How do I know this? My Fiance owns a red Lotus Elise 2006
Reply:The first answerer did a good job. The Elise and Exige are sister cars. As the first answerer indicated, the Exige is more focused on racing at the track but still is street legal. The Exige is actually slightly slower in top speed than the Elise but the fact that it is around 100 lbs lighter than the Elise makes it quicker to accerlerate and gives it even better handling.
To correct one previous answer- the top on the Exige does come off. Many people assume the top does not come off but it indeed does. In fact, if you take your Exige to a local dealer, the can have it fitted with the proper equipment to use the soft top that the standard Elise uses.
The first site listed below is a lotus community site and will answer any and all questions that you have. The second site explains the Exige roof debate.
