The only reason you could not send an Excel file to another user is because the server configuration explicitly prevented .xls (or other extension) files from going across. That's pretty unusual, and not something set in the configuration by default. Check your server configuration to see if such extensions are blocked. If so, there may be a good reason for it. Otherwise, there's nothing in Lotus Domino that would keep you from attaching or embedding an Excel spreadsheet into an email and mailing it by default.
