Engine in the Lotus Exige and Elise?

Who is it who made the engine for it. I know that it was like 1.3 litres or something but who made it and what are the other statisctics etc.?

Engine in the Lotus Exige and Elise?
The exige has a 1.8 litre Toyota engine with a supercharger and develops 190 bhp...

[Edit] the series 1 has a 1.8 litre ROVER K-SERIES engine (normally aspirated)
Reply:Lotus Elise used to have a 1.8 Rover K-Series engine (same as the MG-F), in various degrees of tune, chosen because it is the lightest of all engines (original Elise used to be all abought weight saving, even the brake discs were aluminium).

The engine was joined (and then replaced, after Rover's bankruptcy) by the 1.8 Toyota unit, heavier but stronger and higher-revving thanks to variable valve timing (VVT).

A supercharged version of the Toyota (same as the Toyota MR2) engine found its place first in the Exige and then in the range-topping Elise.
Reply:The engine in the Lotus is a Toyota Celica engine.

1.8L

Around 190 Horsepower.

The Exige has the same engine, but with a supercharger and about 30more HP.

The Elise goes from 0-60mph(100km/h) in 5.3 seconds.

The Exige goes from 0-60mph(100km/h) in 4.4 seconds.

It is one of the lightest sportscars out there.
Reply:rover k-type?

It doesn't really matter. I expect they use mainly the block and everything is re-engineered by Lotus. I had a Saab 900 once which had a Triumph 2000 engine, but it was completely different to the standard engine
