Do you know the meaning of the 12the chapter of the Lotus Sutra?

in this chapter is preacher that the enemy of the Buddha, evil Devadata, gave him the Lotus Sutra because the Buddha abandon the wordly glory as king to serve the Devadata.

This means that even the most evil person has human heart inside and that even evil person can make good without knowing that. Later, by expiating his sins in the hell of incessant suffering, he will become Buddha. It means, that even the evil person can become good person if he/she truly repent and suffers because of his/her sins. So, salvation is given to all people, good or bad.

Also, it is stated that even young girl can become Buddha in a moment. Why in the same chapter is preached about the evil person and young girl that becomes Buddha in a moment? it means that sinfull and evil female can become happy in the moment if she can repent and recall in her mind the first moment of love when she was innocent as child. See the song "Little 15" from Depeche Mode.

Thank you for the question.

It raised an interesting point about karma and repentance.

I think in Buddhism, it depends on your previous actions whether this life or previously. Good deeds will result in good consequence either immediately or later on. The opposite is true (bad action will get bad reaction).

The idea of repentance I thought is more like if you just say you are sorry, all will be forgiven or start from scratch or clean slate).

Is the repentance more related to faith and belief? Everything will be OK as long as you believe in God or his son.

I could be wrong, but I think it is good to have people be afraid of the consequence of their action, before they actually commit it. It is good to have repentance, but sometimes it is a little too late.

Peace.
