First off, I know very little about cars. So, after reading my question and thinking "No s*@t" hear me out for a second. I have often heard about cars being reworked with another make's/model's engine and transmission and other key parts. Could this be done with an Alfa Spider or a Lotus Esprit? Why worry about their mechanical nightmares if I can put Honda parts in an Alfa or Acura parts in a Lotus? Could a savvy mechanic do that? I'm not a automobile purist, so I have no problem cranking up an Acura engine under a Lotus hood if that kind of thing is possible. How doable is it to put major parts of a car into another? I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.
How easily can you switch out the "guts" of an Alfa Romeo Spider or Lotus Esprit with another car?
An Alfa Spider or Triumph Spitfire body on a Honda S2000 platform would be really cool. You may be able to adapt (with extensive work) a Pontiac Fiero V8 conversion to fit a Lotus Esprit. The good thing about cars is anything is possible. The bad thing is the more impossible it seems, the more money it will take to make it possible. I had a Triumph Spitfire when I was young and the guy I sold it to, with about two years of modifications, installed a turbo 3.8 buick engine in it. I also saw an Opel GT with a Datsun 240z drive train in it.
