Does the number of leaves on the Buddhist lotus flower symbolise anything?

I've found lotus flowers with 8 leaves as well as 12 leaves. On the 12 leaved symbol the middle is a sun surrounded by the 12 leaves. Just curious about what this means because this symbol has found me a few times now and I'd like to know if there's a story behind it. Thanks!!

I am unsure about Buddhist symbology specifically

but the lotus petals are used to symbolise the chakras

and each chakra has a specific number of petals that represent the frequency of each chakra

as chakras spin in certain directions and each moving at a different speed

Reply:no nothing special about it as i rhink
Reply:8 could symbolise the Noble Eightfold Path.

Twelve, I'm not sure.

.
Reply:I think there's no significance. I can say it firmly because, Buddhism is devoid of supersitions, so number meaning or such numerology things didn't mean anything.
Reply:Symbols are created by human being so they can symbolise anything as they like and for their conveniently the meaning of it. So, don't believe those explanation. This is one kind of exploitation.
