What is the history behind lotus road bikes?

There really is no 'story'. Lotus was a lower end road bike... the first one I remember seeing was about 1982. They didn't stick around long.

HELP!!!!! THESIS FOR THE ODYSSEY(Lotus-Eaters). How Did Odysseyus show he was a hero here...?

physically and mentally???

THANKS!

HELP!!!!! THESIS FOR THE ODYSSEY(Lotus-Eaters). How Did Odysseyus show he was a hero here...?
When Odysseus and his men landed on the island of the Lotus-Eaters, Odysseus sent out a scouting party of three or so men who ate the lotus with the natives. This caused them to fall asleep and stop caring about even going home. Odysseus went after the scouting party, and dragged them back to the ship against their will. Odysseus set sail, with the drugged soldiers tied to the rudder benches to prevent them from swimming back to the island.
Reply:If you're writing a thesis for The Odyssey you really need to do this research yourself, and decide this answer on your own.

Is Alfred Tennyson's Poem 'Lotus Eater" Why we Crown of Civilization should Toil' can bring harmony in world?
Peace for humanity is a matter of getting rid of delusions, not removal of natural activity. Life is struggle and toil that takes on the form arranged by cause-effect patterns in ones life. Making the causes that are based on wisdom is the key.

How do I export my Lotus Notes address book to import it into Microsoft Outlook?

Step #1 - Install the Lotus Notes Migration Tools

On about the third screen of the installation process a question will pop up asking you what you want to install – Notes Client, Designer etc. Make sure you click on the “Custom” box in the very lower corner of your screen.

Step #2 – Format the Address Book to be Imported

In most cases, address books from various pop mail clients can be imported into Lotus Notes R5, but an end user's address book may need to be cleaned up before the import process begins. Since Notes looks for a first and last name field in the address book importation process, it is important to have your addresses in a first name and last name format.

(eg – Nickname) – Jane Doe – will import into the Notes address book fine

(eg – Nickname) – Doe – will have some problems.

Microsoft Outlook 2000

To correct – go into the address book, double click on name Doe – a dialog box will pop up, click on the “Names” tab, enter information into the first name and last name fields.

Step #3 – Start the Import Process

Microsoft Outlook Express / Outlook 2000

Export the address book as a text file, bring the file into Excel and clean it up, save the file again as a text file, import the address book into Netscape as a text file and then export it out of Netscape as noted previously. Note: under this method group information will be lost.

Errors After The Import Process

The most common error when importing an address book looks like this

(eg. ,doe). To correct this error, click on the name and enter information into the first and last name fields for this individual. If you cleanup the address book before you start, this type of error should be eliminated.

What is better: Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Bugatti, Mercedes, Porsche, or Bentley?

answer correctly for best answer!

What is better: Lamborghini, Ferrari, Lotus, Bugatti, Mercedes, Porsche, or Bentley?
The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is the best. It has a quad-turbocharged 16-cylinder engine. 1000 horsepower. The 0-60 times have been recorded as being as low as 2.5, as high as 2.9. It costs a million dollars. It weighs a little over 4000 pounds. It is AWD and has a 7-speed DSG transmission. DSG means it has two clutches, for ultra-quick shifts. It is the best road-legal car ever made.
Reply:The Bugatti would be better if you want something really fast. If you want to show off though, you should buy either a Ferrari or Lamborghini because they are more commonly known.

Where are stomata found on lotus leaves?

Most plants produce stomata on the undersides of their leaves to absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen, both needed for the plant’s food production cycle. Lotus plants, by contrast, have their stomata on the upper sides of their leaves, exposed to the air. This is due to the fact that since the plant has floating leaves, there will be no stomata on the lower epidermis and the plant will absorb gases directly from water through the cuticle.

Where are stomata found on lotus leaves?
Seeds, rhizomes, moisture, sunlight and muddy soil, humble components that evolved into a mythical symbol, a spectacular water lily, the renowned, coveted and treasured lotus flower. Eighty species of water lilies are grown, eaten and appreciated around the world, but none as spectacular as the Asian lotus, symbol of purity and loveliness.

People treasure the lotus not only for its spectacular blooms in shades of white (the rarest), of creamy yellow, read and pink, but also for its food value. Several parts of the lotus are edible and quite tasty. The plant’s habitats create a symbiotic relationship for a variety of fish and amphibians, providing food and shelter. Many other creatures -- insects, water mites, freshwater sponges and tiny microbes -- make their homes around water lilies, too. The slender stalks of the lotus act as deterrents for excess wave action, thereby helping to keep the water calm.

Water lilies are unusual in many ways. The long stalks rise from their root systems, actually underwater rhizomes that grow on the bottom of a muddy pond or lake, bursting through the water’s surface. Waxy-coated leaves float on the lake or pond surface, repel water and keep the upper surface of the plant dry. Most plants produce stomata on the undersides of their leaves to absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen, both needed for the plant’s food production cycle. Lotus plants, by contrast, have their stomata on the upper sides of their leaves, exposed to the air.

The epidermis is the outer multi-layered group of cells covering the leaf. It forms the boundary between the plant and the external world. The epidermis serves several functions: protection against water loss, regulation of gas exchange, secretion of metabolic compounds, and (in some species) absorption of water. Most leaves show dorsoventral anatomy: the upper (adaxial) and lower (abaxial) surfaces have somewhat different construction and may serve different functions.

The epidermis is usually transparent (epidermal cells lack chloroplasts) and coated on the outer side with a waxy cuticle that prevents water loss. The cuticle may be thinner on the lower epidermis than on the upper epidermis, and is thicker on leaves from dry climates as compared with those from wet climates.

The epidermis tissue includes several differentiated cell types: epidermal cells, guard cells, subsidiary cells, and epidermal hairs (trichomes). The epidermal cells are the most numerous, largest, and least specialized. These are typically more elongated in the leaves of monocots than in those of dicots.

The epidermis is covered with pores called stomata, part of a stoma complex consisting of a pore surrounded on each side by chloroplast-containing guard cells, and two to four subsidiary cells that lack chloroplasts. The stoma complex regulates the exchange of gases and water vapor between the outside air and the interior of the leaf. Typically, the stomata are more numerous over the abaxial (lower) epidermis than the adaxial (upper) epidermis.

Do you know anything about LOTUS TEMPLE?

The Bahá'í temple in New Delhi, India was completed in 1986. It has won numerous architectural awards and been featured in hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles.

Inspired by the lotus flower, its design is composed of 27 free-standing marble clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides.

Nine doors open onto a central hall, capable of holding up to 2,500 people. Slightly more than 40 meters tall, its surface luminous, the temple at times seems to float above its 26 acre (105,000 m2) site on the outskirts of the Indian capital.

Since its inauguration to public worship in December 1986, the Bahá'í House of Worship in New Delhi has, as of late 2002, attracted more than 50 million visitors, making it the most visited edifice in the world, its numbers of visitors during those years surpassing those of the Eiffel Tower and the Taj Mahal. On Hindu holy days, it has drawn as many as 150,000 people.

Do you know anything about LOTUS TEMPLE?

How to convert or import Lotus Notes mail to MS Outlook 2003?

Download the Microsoft Conntector , It’s available for free from Microsoft. It states it works for Outlook 2002 and 2003, for use with Notes release 5 or 6.

Uninstall Microsoft hotfixes

It seems that Outlook 2003 security fix KB892843 stops the connector from installing properly. Unless you remove it, you’ll get the error @”Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The server is not available.

Contact your administrator if this condition persists@. This hotfix is also included in some roll-up fixes, so I suggest you remove any and all Outlook related hotfixes. These hotfixes only affect the installation of the connector, so you can re-run Windows Update afterwards.

You can remove hotfixes from the Add/Remove program dialog – just make sure you have the Show Updates checkbox ticked. The Outlook hotfixes will be listed under Microsoft Office.

Install the connector

Shut down both Notes and Outlook. Double click the connector and follow the on screen instructions

Set up Outlook to read your notes email

Start Outlook up. Select E-Mail Accounts... from the Tools menu. Select Add a new email account, click next, and select Additional Server Types and click next again. Depending on your configuration, you’ll be presented with several server type options. We want Microsoft Offie Outlook Connector for IBM Lotus Notes Domino. Click next. You’ll now be prompted to exit Outlook before the new account will be active.

Outlook should pick up your notes file automatically.

Re-install the Oulook Hotfixes

As you wouldn’t want to forget that, would you :-)

Anyway, that should be it. You’ll now have a slightly more usable way of accessing and sending you email, as well as working with calendars and your todo list. Note that you’ll be unable to read all notes email – those sent with high encruption levels (the ones you can’t send to non-notes email accounts and that can’t be forwared) will not show up, but you should get told that they can’t be transfered by the connector.

How does one achieve the lotus position? Are there exercises designed to gradually achieve it?

The lotus position is the preferred position to mediate in, and you always see the Buddhas meditating in this position. However, this position is considered "Advanced" as far as yoga postures go. If it is very painful to you, try the half-lotus position first (i.e. your right foot placed on your left thigh when you are sitting.

Then put your left foot under your right knee to start. Keep attempting to finally lift your left foot up and place it on your right thigh. It may take days, weeks, or even months, but don't rush it. You should do a lot of stretching.

Because most people (especially Americans) are raised to sit with their feet below their knees, the typical American is not used to this pose. Good luck!

ZEN - LOTUS POSITION

To really practice Zen one must sit like a great pine with a sense of dignity and grandeur.

One sits in the Lotus position traditionally.

The legs are crossed with left foot on right thigh, right foot on left thigh.

Hands are placed in the lap in the form of a cosmic mudra.

The Lotus position expresses the oneness of duality.

Not two, not one.

Our body and mind are both two and one.

Here is a link that will help you do the stretches to prepare for the lotus posture..

http://www.howtostretch.com/fulllotu.htm

How does one achieve the lotus position? Are there exercises designed to gradually achieve it?
Better join a yoga class near your place. First few exercises are better learnt from a physical instructor.
Reply:It's simply a cross legged sitting position where your feet are on top of your knees, instead of beneath them as in typical cross-legged position.

It's not difficult but may be tough if you have tight hips or bad knees. Do some stretches to open up your hips, and don't strain your knees (sit with your legs out a bit if needed) and you should have no problems

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_posit...
Reply:I can see how this would be a difficult position for a kitten to achieve. But for a human I don't see the difficulty unless you are missing legs and hands, lack exercise, or are unwilling to bend the body in unusual ways.

Just cross your legs in the opposite to the way that they are normally crossed, that is, upward not downward, and bring your hands on your laps with your palms facing upward.

To be more precise: The legs are crossed with left foot on right thigh, right foot on left thigh, and with the feet facing upward. Hands are placed on the lap that corresponds to their actual side of the body.

The lotus position, however, is much more than a physical position. It requires a certain mental position including a state of dignity. The required exercises are mental more than physical.

Why do Indians consider the lotus as special?

I don’t want assumptions or what you do blindly

There is an exact reason for it and there is a proper procedure for it.

Please answer only if you know.

The purpose of these questions is for people to know the exact procedure and for the future generation to understand what they do, instead of saying blind belief.

I am going to answer after all your answers: But I also want to know, who is interested.

-----------------

Don’t forget to star if you like this question ... Hey this is only a reminder, not a request.

Why do Indians consider the lotus as special?
The lotus is the symbol of truth, auspiciousness and beauty (satyam, shivam, sundaram). The Lord is also that nature and therefore, His various aspects are compared to a lotus (i.e. lotus-eyes, lotus feet, lotus hands, the lotus of the heart etc.).

The lotus blooms with the rising sun and close at night. Similarly, our minds open up and expand with the light of knowledge. The lotus grows even in slushy areas. It remains beautiful and untainted despite its surroundings, reminding us that we too can and should strive to remain pure and beautiful within, under all circumstances.

The lotus leaf never gets wet even though it is always in water. It symbolizes the man of wisdom (gyaani) who remains ever joyous, unaffected by the world of sorrow and change. This is revealed in a shloka from the Bhagwad-Geeta:

Brahmanyaadhaaya karmaani

Sangam tyaktvaa karoti yaha

Lipyate na sa paapena

Padma patram ivaambhasaa

He who does actions, offering them to Brahman (the Supreme), abandoning attachment, is not tainted by sin, just as a lotus leaf remains unaffected by the water on it.

From this, we learn that what is natural to the man of wisdom becomes a discipline to be practiced by all saadhakas or spiritual seekers and devotees. Our bodies have certain energy centers described in the Yoga Shaastras as chakras.

Each one is associated with lotus that has a certain number of petals. For example, a lotus with a thousand petals represents the Sahasra chakra at the top of the head, which opens when the yogi attains Godhood or Realisation. Also, the lotus posture (padmaasana) is recommended when one sits for meditation. A lotus emerged from the navel of Lord Vishnu. Lord Brahma originated from it to create the world. Hence, the lotus symbolizes the link between the creator and the supreme Cause.

It also symbolizes Brahmaloka, the abode of Lord Brahma. The auspicious sign of the swastika is said to have evolved from the lotus.
Reply:I thought they preferred Chevy's

I myself like Hondas
Reply:Because according to the Hindi religion the world sprang forth from a lotus flower growing out of the belly of the god Brahma.

According to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nelumbo_nuc...

"Hindus associate the lotus blossom with creation mythology, and with the gods Vishnu, Brahma, and the goddesses Lakshmi and Sarasvati. From ancient times the lotus has been a divine symbol in Hindu tradition. It is often used as an example of divine beauty, for example Vishnu is often described as the 'Lotus-Eyed One'. Its unfolding petals suggest the expansion of the soul. The growth of its pure beauty from the mud of its origin holds a benign spiritual promise. Particularily Brahma and Lakshmi, the divinities of potence and wealth, have the lotus symbol associated with them. In Hindu iconography, deities often are depicted with lotus flowers as their seats. In Hindi it is called ??? (Kamal) which is also a popular name for men, the female form is Kamala.

The lotus flower is quoted extensively within Puranic and Vedic literature, for example:

One who performs his duty without attachment, surrendering the results unto the Supreme Lord, is unaffected by sinful action, as the lotus leaf is untouched by water. Bhagavad Gita 5.10

Borrowing from Hinduism, in Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents purity of body, speech, and mind, floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire. The Buddha is often depicted sitting on a giant lotus leaf or blossom. According to legend, he was born with the ability to walk and everywhere he stepped, lotus flowers bloomed.

Drawing in turn on these Hindu and Buddhist beliefs, the international Bahá'í community adopted this symbolism in the design of the "Lotus Temple" in New Delhi, India."

According to: http://www.tryptamind.com/nelumbo_nucife...

"Indians believe that Brahma, creator and God of the universe, sprang from a lotus blossom. And the Buddhist prayer "Om! Mani padme hum!" translates as "Oh!, the jewel of the lotus flower!" "
Reply:It represents transformation.

The seed is under the mud (earthly).

It grows up through the water(subconscious).

Flowers above the waters surface (conscious).

It connects the earth, the person, and heaven/divinity.
Reply:CHINESE regard it as a symbol of pure Enlightenment springing from the physical world of change, illusion and the dying human body, just as the pure white lotus flower springs from the mud.

The Taiwan ShengGongHui (Anglican/Episcopal Church) uses it in their coat of arms as a symbol of Asia.

And 'reasons' are never exact, they are all and always multiply connected in a context which includes contradictions.
Reply:Position or flower?
Reply:Lotus flowers are amazing and have strong symbolic ties to many Asian religions especially throughout India. The lotus flower starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the waters surface continually moving towards the light. Once it come to the surface of the water the lotus flower begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower.

Within Hinduism and Buddhism the lotus flower has become a symbol for awakening to the spiritual reality of life.

idian a Hindu country and i believe this is the reason whic is said above.

hope this is right.
Reply:Please look at the attachment page 11 seciont 16 and this explains it all plus more indian beliefs.

The lotus is the symbol of truth auspisiousness and beauty the lord is also that beauty and therefore his various aspects are compared to a lotus. ie eye, feet, hands and heart.

Reply:Indians consider the 'lotus as special because its the flower which is liked by Hindu Gods %26amp; Goddesses, so whenever the prayers are offered , Lotus is also put along with the idols, its considered sacred flower...Among the various flowers of Indian sub-continent, the flower Lotus is regarded with divinity and grace. Even Lord Siva, who wanted to escape the wrath of the Lord Saneeswaran, morphed himself into the shape of a bee and took asylum inside a lotus
Reply:If you have seen lotus, you will notice that it is a beautiful flower which grows in the muddy ponds, filled with insects and pests. This is supposed to signify India, which blossoms because of its kindness and politeness, while other nations in the world do bad deeds and are cruel to its fellow neighbours.I promise that this answer is originial.I got this from chapter 4:35 from the constitutional preamble of India.

I want information on live lotus and watter Lilly plants,?
Water Lillie's improve with age and continue to grow and flower continually during the growing season.

In fact they will grow without soil. How do I know you ask? The koi in my garden pond uprooted them from the container and yet they continue to grow and grow and grow. I've never fertilized them and I haven't repotted them for the past 2 years. I have well water I don't know if that is the determining factor or not.

My pond is only 2,000 gallons not large enough for lotus.

Many lotus flowers are pre ordered the year before and you will find many places 'Sold Out'.

My company just moved from Lotus Notes to Outlook. How can I get the messages from Notes into Outlook?
You would have to import the notes from Lotus to Outlook, if this file is on your PC and you now have Outlook installed do an "import Export" from the file menu and choose Lotus Notes as the program you're importing from and then browse to your Lotus file where all your notes are saved -

You would have had to migrate or export to a file from Lotus if it works anything like Outlook and then import the same type of file in Outlook -

Software -

You can use XITNotes tool to do the same. Please write XITNotes in google search and you will get trial version download. It imports Lotus files to Outlook
Reply:Your company should also have migrated the messages from lotus to your exchange server. it should be automatically visible in your outlook now..

What is the feature of lotus-notes?

lotes-notes is a software. which is used as mail server and development

What is the feature of lotus-notes?
Hi. I'm a programmer. And programming in Lotus Domino Designer now. Lotus is a very big client-server platform that have its own mail server, domino server and DECS or DB2 server to connect to other relational databases. Lotus Notes is just a part of Lotus that designed for clients. You can use Notes for your email accounts and for other applications written in Lotus Domino Designer. The database of Lotus is not a relational database. It's document based database. You can also use the application written in Domino Designer with browser from Internet. I can say more things about Lotus Notes if you want.

And I want to say that Lotus is one of biggest server-client platform of all time created by IBM.

That is all...

I'm either getting a lotus europa, or a mitsubishi eclipse, but im not sure which one to buy.?

The ones I'm looking at both cost about the same price(around $10k).

I'm either getting a lotus europa, or a mitsubishi eclipse, but im not sure which one to buy.?
The Europa's are neat by far, but very expensive to maintain, and parts are getting scarer by the day.

The Mitsu is a better daily driver, BUT, they too have problems. The early 90's cars have Timing Belt issues, so beware of any valve noises, as it may have a bent or burnt valve.

Reply:Lotus....theyre a lot cooler than a stupid mitsubishi
Reply:Buy a used mustang. The Europa isn't street legal.. so you could get it taken away or arrested for it and the eclipse is Japanese aka not a good car.

Which car is better, the Lotus Esprit Turbo or the Porsche 911?

in terms of fun to drive, maintenance cost and availability of parts, performance, features, offers better value overall.

I have to add that I'm 6' tall.

I want to buy a 8-15 year old car. I know the Esprit is not manufactured anymore so the comparison should be between comparable models.

Which car is better, the Lotus Esprit Turbo or the Porsche 911?
I stick with the Porsche 911. In that date range, you'd be looking at a 911 that is described as a 993 or a 964. The 993 was made between 1995 and 1998. I happen to own a '97 Carrera. It's the last of the air cooled narrow body cars. If you are interested in buying something that is a collectable, consider either a 1997 Carrera or a 1998 Carrera S. The S model has the fatter rear end and wider tires. It's often described as the Turbo body on the non-turbo chassis.

Another interesting point on the 993 Carrera's is that the seats have two mounting positions. Typically the seats are mounted in the forward position. However, you can easily move the seat back about an inch by simply removing 4 bolts, shifting the seat back, and then re-installing.

Regarding your height, don't worry about it. I'm 6'6" and about 300 lbs. I fit just fine, with the exception of typically pulling my shoes off when I drive.

I've been a driving instructor for Porsche and other clubs for about 10 years. It's simply a fantastic piece of equipment on the track and very rewarding to drive. On the track, it's a little tight with the helmet on. It would be better if my car didn't have a sunroof. You lose an inch or so of headroom with a sunroof. Performance is stellar; it drives like a go-cart. Parts are readily available; however, maintenance costs can be high.

Price wise, you'd be looking at about 30K plus or minus 5K for a nice car. Further, you are at the flat part of the depreciation curve. I wouldn't expect the Carerra to depreciate more than $1K per year for the next 5 years.

The lotus esprit turbo had some serious maintenance issues. Although it looks simply fantastic, maintenance is a pain and expense. Further, I assure you that a stock Carrera would lay waste to a Lotus Esprit Turbo on a racetrack.

Which faith is the famous Lotus Temple of New Delhi dedicated to?

Indeed it's the Bahaí faith. It's the youngest religion of the world!

Founded a century and a half ago, the Bahá’í Faith is today among the fastest-growing of the world’s religions. With more than five million followers, who reside in virtually every nation on earth, it is the second-most widespread faith, surpassing every religion but Christianity in its geographic reach. Bahá’ís reside in more than 100,000 localities around the world, an expansion that reflects their dedication to the ideal of world citizenship.

Why do people think a lotus posture is required when meditating?

when that's the way a lot of Asians sit all the time, and Buddha just happened to be Asian.

Why do people think a lotus posture is required when meditating?
It's probably because of the influence of seeing it in movies and so on. Yes, you are right, many people DO sit like that on a regular basis. I don't think that it is required at all. A comfortable position is required, and for some, lotus isn't comfortable at all.
Reply:I'm Buddhist, and I sometime sit Lotus, sometimes not.

The point of meditation is to get your body to the point that you are so comfortable, you forget about it. Any position that allows you to sit comfortably and maintain that position for a long period of time without pain or discomfort is ideal for meditation.
Reply:It's not. One can meditate in any position - and the only true meditation consists of thinking about God and his word in the Bible (Psalms 63:6; 77:12; 119:27,48,78,148; 143:5; 145:5)
Reply:not really needed. whats important is the state of mind.
Reply:I am in Asia now and I can't sit that way... they must learn it young...

When will they remodel the lotus elise or the exige?

i was wondering what year they will remake them because i really like the car, but i'd rather wait a little if it will turn out to be better looking or more comfortable.

When will they remodel the lotus elise or the exige?
I dont think it'll be anytime soon because they are currently remodelling to Lotus Espirit which is to come out later in 2009/2010 well they dont really have the budget to remodel three cars at the same time afterall they are owned by a Malaysian Business Man not Volkswagen or GM, so you can buy that car but beware tht they are very small and you dont even a boot, Air conn i doubt it'll even work, and If you live in a place where temprature's go above 90'F then they are bound to break down.

Whats the advantage of using Lotus Notes rather then Salesforce?

I dont think there is an advantage

Whats the advantage of using Lotus Notes rather then Salesforce?
Not being an expert on Salesforce but having a pretty good background in Notes, I would say that Lotus Notes' strength is in it's ability to provide lots of different functionality. While packages might specialise in particular areas (Salesforce seems to specialise in CRM) Notes can provide a common UI for things like document libraries, email, CRM and anything else you want to program. This means that the problems normally encountered with integration across multiple different packages can disappear in Notes as it uses LotusScript (a variant of VB) and Java/CORBA to work with anything written in Notes.

You can also use tools to integrate with Notes through CORBA or SQL/ODBC.

So I guess it's advantage is that it doesn't specialise in one thing but tries to do everything at once (and how well it does that is down to the skill of each developer).

if you bought a vauxhall you will not even be able to give it away in two years if it survives that is.
Reply:because less than 500 were built , { insurance companies killed them off just as they with the cossie- I know , I had a Saffie cossie in `92 for a year till it was nicked and never found}, its always gonna make money for rarity value alone.

If you know a good one , buy it and put it away somewhere safe and only use it when all the plebs are fast asleep cos thats the only way to keep hold of it, and never drive home the same way.
Reply:I knew a man once who bought a brand new Morris minor, had it wax oiled and crated and left it in there for 25 years.

Presume if you did that it could be worth a little.

But i can't imagine you could buy a decent Lotus Carlton now.
Reply:A reconditioned engine gota be worth a fortune. As for the car, not much really.

I loved the car. A man in my area had one and we used to chase him through the town till the motorway and he'd vanished. 170mph Its actually capable of 250 it's the engine that's limited.

I think a reconditioned Engine ma-by £10000. But an overhaul is going to be £5000.

Reply:I think you'd be taking a risk on this one becoming a classic car.
Reply:In 20 years time petrol will not be the main choice of fuel. It will be so expensive only a few wealthy people will be able to afford it.
Reply:I sat in a Lotus Carlton when they were brand new at a motor show, they were well talked about then (it was around 1990/91), this car was the absolute dogs bits at the time, nobody had made a 4 door saloon with so much grunt before this (Subaru and Mitsubishi obviously saw what a good idea it was.) These cars were born with classic status.. How often do you see one now? Very rare piece of motor history in my opinion. I don't know how much you would pay for a good one now but it would be a cracking investment i reckon. Cars like this don't go down in value. Just look at the Lotus Cortina.........
Reply:Will it be a 'Classic' or just an old car

Personally I had never heard of it, what makes a car a classic? I would say it has to have some kind of enduring style and effection.

Look at the Jaguar E type, still in the nations favorite top 10.

My favorite Jaguar is the 3.8 Mk10, a lovely old car but not a classic.

VWs Beetle? Ugly, guttless, poor luggage space, truly awfull. But somehow it has that enduring style and appeal that keeps it in the public eye. And dont forget uncle Hitler may have not designed it but he approved it for the German people.

What do you think of LOTUS FEET?

I THINK THAT WHOLE FOOT BINDING THING IS SOOOOOO GROSS. WHAT DO U THINK?

What do you think of LOTUS FEET?
Do they even still do that?
Reply:It was a way of life back then in China, however now it is frowned upon. It was a way to show wealth.
Reply:i think they are weird cuase of the green colour... eww green
Reply:Of course, we consider it gross, but it was a cultural tradition and a sign of wealth.

It's really unfair, and rather provincial, to criticize customs of other cultures without taking a hard look at your own. Consider, for example, the tight corsets worn by women in the mid-to late 19th century, into the early 20th. These actually caused internal damage and caused organs to shift position. Women fainted frequently because they couldn't breathe properly because of the corsets. Women wore "hobble skirts" which prevented them from being able to run, or even walk comfortably. And this is just one example from Western culture.

So, let's not get too high and mighty about things, OK?
Reply:painful and disgusting
Reply:completely unacceptable. a way to keep women down (yes, some women rose above it), and to enforce class standards and divisions (only rich women had them and those trying to be rich; country women did not usually have them, and were looked down upon for their regular "humongous" feet). notice that none of the men put up with such things done to themselves?

anyway, lotus feet are over, but painful shoe practices for women certainly are not (take a look at the newest craze out of Japan where the shoes are 'en pointe' like ballet dancers, that is straight up and down, all the time) yeah. right. we haven't changed much.

How do I get my Lotus Notes inbox to auto-refresh, like in Outlook where “You have new mail" messages appear?

Anything to automate this without having to hit F9 to refresh all the time?

Thank you.

How do I get my Lotus Notes inbox to auto-refresh, like in Outlook where “You have new mail" messages appear?
Sure you can configure it.

Just simply select File/Preferences/User Preferences to open User Preferences dialog. Then, select Mail subject, then you'll see on the right side, Email Configuration: to make your Notes client auto receive email, just fill in the time (in minutes) at Receiving section, and OK. That's all.

Hope this can help you.

Cheers,

Lam.

I don't have Lotus Notes at home or I'd take you through it step by step, but it's pretty simple. If I were sitting at that computer I probably wouldn't have to think about it.

What are the benefits of lotus leaf tea?
Drinking Chinese Tea to Promote Health

Enjoying tea is an integral part of Chinese life. However, tea-drinking customs vary throughout China. Scented tea, like jasmine tea, is popular in north China; people in the east prefer green tea while people in the south usually drink black tea.

Being one of life's daily necessities and considering its special healing effects, tea is a common ingredient used in folk remedies. For example, it is said that tea is good for elderly people or for people who are recovering from serious diseases. When such people present with fatigue, gastric and abdominal distention after meals, it is recommended that they drink old fermented tea for several days.

Lotus seed tea: lotus seeds (30g) are first soaked in warm water for 5 hours then boiled with water and brown sugar (30g) until the seeds become soft. Tea is added just prior to serving. This dessert invigorates the spleen and kidneys, which is recommended for individuals with nephritis and edema.

Lotus leaf tea: this tea is made by greed tea powder (2g) and dried lotus leaf (9g), steep the ingredients in boiling water for 5minutes. It helps individuals to quench thirst, prevent acne growing, and improve the skin elastic as well as loss weight

Reply:I would disagree. Lotus Elise is a lot more reliable. Second it is half the price. Maintain the car is alot cheaper. Report It
Reply:porsh 911 is the best

Why do hindus consider the lotus as special?

In Hinduism, the lotus (Sanskrit: padma) primarily represents beauty and non-attachment. The lotus is rooted in the mud but floats on the water without becoming wet or muddy. This symbolizes how how one should live in the world in order to gain release from rebirth: without attachment to one's surroundings.

Though there are other water plants that bloom above the water, it is only the lotus which, owing to the strength of its stem, regularly rises eight to twelve inches above the surface.

"One who performs his duty without attachment, surrendering the results unto the Supreme Lord, is unaffected by sinful action, as the lotus leaf is untouched by water."

-- Bhagavad Gita 5.10

Why do hindus consider the lotus as special?
Purity, because it grows in long stalk to be seperated from it's root in mud....

Detachment, because even when it grows in mud, no dirt touches it...
Reply:I think yo're wrong. I'm pretty sure they like ALL Lambourghinis.
Reply:supposed to be smellier to the top chakra on the top of the head.
Reply:The lotus is the symbol of truth, auspiciousness and beauty (satyam, shivam, sundaram).

How to distinguish between a lotus flower and a lily while looking at a pond full of them?

identification with respect to size and shape of petals, whether leaves float or present above the level of water etc?

How to distinguish between a lotus flower and a lily while looking at a pond full of them?
The white water lily has leaves that arise on flexible stalks from large, thick rhizomes. The leaves are more round than heart-shaped, bright green, 6 to 12 inches in diameter with the slit about 1/3 the length of the leaf and usually float on the water's surface. Flowers arise on separate stalks, have brilliant white petals (25 or more per flower) with yellow centers. The flowers may float on the surface or stick above the water and each opens in the morning and closes in the afternoon. If it sticks up above the water's surface, though, the stalk is generally only a few inches long - never more than a foot. See http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10...

A white lotus flower, on the other hand, grows more than three feet tall above the water - some varieties as tall as seven feet. The leaves, as wide as 20" in diameter, both float on the surface of the water and are also held on tall stalks out of the water, and have a "ruffled" look to the edge, with no split as is characteristic of a water lily. The flower can be as wide as 18" in diameter, held on a thick stalk out of the water, and as the flower ages, the lower petals hang down. The center of the flower is generally yellow, having the appearance of a cone, with the flat side up. There appears to be "bumps" that later turn into holes in the flat surface, which is where the seeds eventually form. The dried seed pods are very popular in floral arrangements. See http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10...

It has been my experience, however, that many people use the term "lily" and "lotus" interchangeably, especially when referring to white flowering varieties, and more commonly in Europe than in the US. I hope this helps.

Which faith is the famous Lotus Temple of New Delhi dedicated to?

LOTUS TEMPLE IN Delhi is dedicated to BAHAI Faith-

Additional informations -

Located in Kalkaji in the south of Delhi, it is lotus shaped and has rightly been given the name. It is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand. It is open to all faiths and is an ideal place for meditation and obtaining peace and tranquility.

It is a very recent architectural marvel of the Bahai faith. The Bahá'í Faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. Its founder, Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), is regarded by Bahá'ís as the most recent in the line of Messengers of God that stretches back beyond recorded time and that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ and Muhammad.

The central theme of Bahá'u'lláh's message is that humanity is one single race and that the day has come for its unification in one global society. God, Bahá'u'lláh said, has set in motion historical forces that are breaking down traditional barriers of race, class, creed, and nation and that will, in time, give birth to a universal civilization. The principal challenge facing the peoples of the earth is to accept the fact of their oneness and to assist the processes of unification.--

The lotus flower signifies purity and peace, a representation of the Manifestation of God, to the people of India. This ancient symbol has been given a modern and contemporary form in the structure of the Bahai House of Worship drawing into its sanctum sanctorum people from all races, religious backgrounds and culture from around the globe. It represents the Bahai faith, - an independent world religion; divine in origin, all embracing in scope, broad in its outlook, scientific in its method, humanitarian in its principles, and dynamic in the influence

Can someone tell me the Lotus Notes code to create a class in VB. There already is one does anyone know?

I am trying to create a view in Business Objects to a mail database and I can do this by entering the class in Business Objects and then accessing it that way. I don't have the class to do it though can someone give me it or help me out?

Can someone tell me the Lotus Notes code to create a class in VB. There already is one does anyone know?
You can use Visual Basic to communicate with Notes like the following:

Private Sub InitializeDomino_Click()

Dim s As New NotesSession

Call s.Initialize

MsgBox s.CommonUserName, , "Common user name"

End Sub

But if you are realy trying to access Notes through Visual Basic then you need to use COM interface ( Component Object Model ) which allows you to run Lotusscript though VB. I don't know a lot about doing it this way but if you go into the Notes help and search on COM it has a lot of information.

I hope this helps.

Why isn't there a Lotus category under Car Makes?

Why? And what is a Tata?

Why isn't there a Lotus category under Car Makes?
Lotus is a very small and new company and only has two models out, the elise and the exige. There aren't really any just Lotus dealers either. You have to go to a dealership like VW to find Lotus. And if you are looking for it used give up because people that have them aren't going to give it up especially because it is a new company. The Lotus comany is kind of like the Scion. To get a Scion you have to go to Toyota and to get a Lotus you have to go to VW.
Reply:When you look for Lotus, look under the name "Proton". That is the company who currently has a controlling interest in it. BTW, Lotuses aren't that expensive, so some people just need to look up their facts before spouting off.
Reply:Tata is basically an Indian company who make cars, trucks and buses.
Reply:Maybe it's because most people who can afford a Lotus won't be on yahoo asking questions about it?

How can I use blue lotus?
Nymphaea caerulea looks nice. It does have slight psychoactive properties, but nothing particularly remarkable - nothing worth the trouble.

Nelumbo nucifera is also pretty. Flowers, seeds, young leaves, and roots are edible. Petals, leaves, and roots can be eaten raw, though that's risky - you can get a belly full of parsites. The petals are used for a garnish, and the leaves are used as a wrap for food. The root is sometimes used as a vegetable in soups and stir-fry.

I have an 'ELNA - Lotus SP' sewing machine and need an instruction book.?

I have an 'ELNA - Lotus SP' sewing machine and need an instruction book.?
I own an old Elna machine too. I don't have the book you need but I might know where you can get some information on it. I was browsing Yahoo groups some time ago and came across a group strictly for Vintage Elna owners. I am not sure if it is still operating as I have not had an occaision to look for it lately. You could try searching the groups under sewing topics. The people who originaly started the group are sewing machine repairmen who find the old Elna's to be very collectible. I have seen people asking them for replacement books, parts, etc. Good luck. I love my old Elna. I got it when my daughter was 2 and she is now 39.

Do water plants like lotus need manure? if yes, which?

I fill my barrels about 3/4 with composted cow manure, but plain old compost can be used too. Before putting the compost in, put one cup of Osmocote (Veggie Formula) or Multicote (Veggie Formula) at the bottom (these are NOT your typical water soluable fertilizers...please read the entire label on the container to understand exactly how they work). I do NOT recommend any other kind of fertilizer with my lotus in a barrel planting method. You will NOT get the same results as I do unless you follow my instructions exactly: NO SUBSTITUTES!

Gently lay the lotus tubers on top of the compost. Then gently cover the tubers with about 1-2" of pea gravel, keeping the growing tips above the gravel. Then add water until 3-4" of water covers the gravel. Then do nothing but top off the barrels when the water gets low, and watch the lotus grow and bloom. DO NOT ADD ANY MORE FERTILIZER. Osmocote and Multicote are time released, and will last through fall.

Lotus are among the trickiest of all of the water plants to grow, although given proper conditions, they are vigorous to the point of being nuisances. There is a lot of information out there in the world on this subject, much of it incorrect. There is so much mis-information, in fact, that many well intentioned, enthusiastic people fail repeatedly and eventually give up in abject despair. What follows is an honest discussion of Lotus culture.

First, a description of the plant. Lotus are related to water lilies, obviously, but just as obviously, there are significant differences. The important difference is in the root system. Instead of the rhizomes of the hardy lilies and the bulbs of tropical lilies, lotus produce elongated tubers that roughly resemble bananas. This is what you receive when you purchase a lotus plant. It is the condition and treatment of this tuber that determines your success or failure.

In preparation for growing lotus, you first need to chose a location. It should be sunny, preferably without flowing water, and it should be proportional to the variety of lotus to be grown. Do not expect Perry’s Giant Sunburst to grow in a hatful of soil. Large varieties require large (25-50 sq.ft.) areas of a pond, or tubs of at least 45 gallons capacity. Neither should you expect a dwarf variety to show to its best advantage in a very large setting. If your area is limited, choose a small lotus. If the plant is to be grown within a pond, it needs to be contained. You should find the largest, roundest container that will fit in the space available. Lotus plants produce long runners over the course of the season and have the capacity to run away from their pots. For this reason, give the plant the deepest pot that you can. This minimizes the chance that the runner will jump over the top of the pot. Also, it has been said that the deeper the soil, the healthier the plant. The pot should be arranged so that the top of the container is 6”- 12” below the surface of the water. Any less and the plant will tend to tip and blow over, any more and goldfish and koi might move in and tear the whole thing up, which nobody wants.

Using amended soil, fill the container to within 3” or 4” of the top. If you are growing the plant in a free standing container, fill it about halfway with soil. Cover the soil with 2”-3” of sand, and slowly fill the container with water. If the lotus is in a container within a pond, and there are koi or goldfish present, use a little less sand at first, follow that with at least 2” of black lava rock and cap that with the rest of the sand. We hate to do this to lotus, but we also hate to see them get dug up by fish.

When the soil, etc. are in place, lower the tank into the water. Instead of putting the tuber into the soil as many sets of instructions would have you do, we always set the tuber ONTO the substrate, embedding it slightly in the sand and weighing it down with stones. We then allow the plant to essentially plant itself. The growing plant will instinctively turn downward into the substrate and will use it to its own best advantage once it is in. Burying the tuber into the soil from the beginning almost inevitably dooms the tuber to rotting because of bacterial activity in the soil. This is especially true if you follow the instructions that recommend that you use manure in your soil.

This is also where the condition of the tuber comes into play. Many companies send tubers that are not sprouted, either in leaf or root. We always try to ensure that the plants have sprouted both roots and leaves. This ensures its viability, and helps to assure its success by getting it over the first big hurdle, that of sprouting roots and beginning to grow in earnest before the decay from the cut end catches up with the growing tip. There will almost inevitably be decay in the cut end of the tuber. It is just a matter of the plant using the strength that it has stored in the tuber before the bacteria do. Stronger, pre-sprouted plants have the best chance of doing that.

The first several leaves will float. These are followed at some point by emergent leaves. This is when we begin to feed the plants with fertilizer tablets if we need to at all. New soil may not require supplemental feeding for the first season, whereas second year plantings will require feeding. We use Gro-Power tablets, 12-8-8 at first, followed by 3-12-12 to force flowers. We like to add a full 12-8-8 and ? of a 3-12-12 tablet for each new standing leaf for particularly vigorous growth. It is possible to overfeed them, and you should stop feeding them as they begin to go dormant.

Dead leaves would be removed about 1” above the water line. Every two or three years, pots should be re-worked, i.e., emptied, cleared of dead tubers, get new soil, etc.

Do water plants like lotus need manure? if yes, which?
They are best grown in ponds_proverbial Talab ka pani.
Reply:Lotus are heavy feeders. There are fertilizer pellets you can buy at any pond store or any place that carries pond supplies. I used to put two in at a time about every week or two... to no avail. Mine wouldn't blossom. It's too cool in NY I guess.

Gonna Buy me a lotus elise next week!?

Super idea or what?

Gonna Buy me a lotus elise next week!?
Get me one while you're there. i'll pay you back when i can.
Reply:Did the dude with the mullet really say he would prefer a Camaro SS???? Report It
Reply:Absolute must bye!

I have one and I'm grinning all over whenever I drive it. No reliabilty problems and its actually comfortable enough to do long journeys. Super fast acceleration and deceleration. Corners like a dream. Pure fun fun fun.

Two aftermarket purchase you should make though....

1, A sports exhaust, I went for Janspeed

2, A free induction system. I went for hurricane.

The combination improves performand but also allows a beautiful sound to evolve.

There's a great elise forum and very active regional clubs.

GO FOR IT you will never regret it.
Reply:fab can i have a go?
Reply:Why? You can get a much better car for the same money.

Still they look nice from the back them Elise'

Good luck to you mate.
Reply:Super Idea you lucky toad I`m really envious...enjoy the car...
Reply:HORRID CARS - I can think of lots of nicer cars but, if that's what you want - fair play and enjoy.
Reply:It's great that you can afford it. It's a very cool car. I saw it in a parking lot one time and noticed that it was VERY VERY low, just like a true sports car. I'd take it over a Porsche Boxster any day. Good Choice.

P.S. Sorry, but the guy who would get a Camaro SS convertible instead doesn't know what he's talking about. The Lotus is in the Porsche, Ferrari league. The Camaro SS convertible is in the trailer park league, you see at least a dozen of them every single day, the Lotus is both rare and very fast. There is NO better performance for price car out there.
Reply:that is one sweet looking automobile, I wonder what the top speed is and how much they cost. Go for it, definitely!
Reply:Brilliant - a proper drivers car. Get it to the Nürburgering and have some fun!

Congrats!
Reply:great idea purchase a car designed by a man called trevor
Reply:It's a decent car but there are plenty better for the price. The name Lotus alone brings the price up. Personally I'd take a Camaro SS convertible before that.
Reply:You'll need to make an appointment with a Chiropractic the week after then.
Reply:not really super, i'd go for a porsche or lexus convertable
Reply:dumb, ignorant and stupid
Reply:Ooh, take me for a spin, please!
Reply:Nice car but would you not be better off with a VX220. OK it has not got the Lotus badge on the front but underneath the body they are nearly the same car. My friends who have test driven both have always opted for the Vauxhall saying they were a better drive ETC. Unless they were ALL LYING and could not really afford the extra for the Lotus.
Reply:great idea, I had a lotus, great car choice
