for such exact answer, you might want to look at the tecn notes from IBM themselves. They do explain bits and pieces regarding the notes.

2005 Lotus Elise VS. 2003 BMW M3?

Which should I pick?

They are about the same price. And Im leaning towards the M3.

What is your opinion?

2005 Lotus Elise VS. 2003 BMW M3?
The Elise is so light, some consider it a big boy's toy. Perfect track car if you're the kind. Note that if you're looking for a luxurious interior, the Elise isn't it. The 2 aren't exactly in the same category (sports car vs. GT). you shouldn't have problems looking for a used M3 with a good price.
Reply:BMW M3. I've owned a number of BMWs and they are fantastic cars. The M3 is a hoot to drive. You'll love it.
Reply:BMW M3 I used to own one and it will eat up just about anything you come across on the rd.

cobras, vettes, NSX, supra, RX7, 350z.......it doesn't matter they can't keep up with an M3!
Reply:bmw is faster but the elise can out handle the bmw and you see less lotus Elises. Id go lotus
Reply:BMW is more practicle

Lotus is more of a real sports car and will handle better

Lotus is more unique

I'm not sure which I'd pick either.. I'd have to test drive
Reply:Depends what you are after.

The Lotus accelerates faster handles better and will give you more thrills. But it only has two seats a hard suspension ride and is not very practical.

The BMW gives you seats in the back a nicer ride and is a lot more practical. I would take the Lotus but I like an uncompromising vehicle. The M3 is definately the way to go if you don't go to trackdays, or you spend most of your time driving in the city.

If you tried to cancel one of the meetings, sometimes Lotus hangs and erases all of them... I'm affraid that your only solution is going to be to re-create the meeting.

Chinese Lotus Root...?

...I'm only using half the packet, can I freeze the rest or will they go mushy?

Chinese Lotus Root...?
yes you can freeze lotus root. (in japanese it is called "hasu") i don't know what you're using it in - and i don't know if your package has it in whole sections or sliced or in chunks - but you might like to try the following with the leftovers......

slice paper thin and make lotus chips (as you would potato chips), making certain you season with your favourite asian seasoning or a good sea salt immediately after removing from oil.

using rice vinegar and fresh ginger root, put slices or chunks in a vinegarette made with rice vinegar, fresh ginger root and a touch of white sugar. you can keep this for quite a while in your fridge and use as an accompaniment with your favourite rice dish or as an addition to a green salad.
Reply:No you can freeze it. Do you know how to cook it? You can slice it thinly and make a batter out of besan (chickpea flour otherwise known as Spanish peas ) mix with a little salt, a little chopped up coriander leaf and a little green chilli. Dip the thing rings into the batter and deep fry or....fry a medium sized onion, two or three pieces of garlic and ginger and small green chilli cook till brown.Add 500 grams of tomoatoes cook until it is purified .Add half spoon of tumeric powder, two teaspoons of coriander and half a spoon of garam masala and salt to taste. Add the lotus stalks which

should be cut about an inch long.. Fry one medium potato cut into 6 pieces and when brown add to the lotus root that is cooking. When cooked either eat with rice or chapati. The lotus root fritters are nice with a hot chilli sauce or a chutney made with coriander leaves, onion, tomato garlic and green chilli. Good luck and hon appetite.

Is lotus 123 is a computer language?

Lotus 1-2-3 is a spreadsheet program from Lotus Software (now part of IBM). It was the IBM PC's first "killer application"; its huge popularity in the mid-1980s contributed significantly to the success of the IBM PC in the corporate environment.

The name "1-2-3" stemmed from the product's integration of three main capabilities. Along with being a spreadsheet, it also offered integral charting/graphing and rudimentary database operations.

Is lotus 123 is a computer language?
Lotus 123 'was' a spreadsheet program
Reply:No - it used to be the number 1 spread sheet program. Now it is a footnote in history...
Reply:no , lotus is a mailing system like outlook
Reply:No it isn't. It's a killer application.
Reply:No, it is spreadsheet software, like Excel

Can Lotus Elise or Exige beat....Mustang GT,Pontiac GTO,Nissan 350z, B.M.W, Viper, Monte Carlo, Toyota MR2....

Is it worth buying for that price....is it long lasting, Is it easy 2 find parts, Is it good at gas....well i am not buying a car so i can sell it....but just asking is it good at resale value...Is this made in Europe or wat?

Can Lotus Elise or Exige beat....Mustang GT,Pontiac GTO,Nissan 350z, B.M.W, Viper, Monte Carlo, Toyota MR2....
It's not fair to compare a lightweight pure breed like an Elise S2 or Exige with heavy big-engined cars like GTO, Viper and such.

Elises and particularly Exiges are intense driving machines that will give enormous driving pleasure - even at moderate speed. They are not big comfortable bruisers that will let you cruise effortlessly and then go fast once in a while.

Many Lotus owners come from bikes, and except from some very extreme trackday specials, these cars are as close to pure racing as you can probably get with plates and waranty.

Technically, they are brilliant designs - immensely stiff chassis yet one third lighter than a plain spec Miata. General quality is decent, engines are Toyota and will last. These cars are hand assembled, so you may find slight niggles that you would not find on a 350Z or M3.

The only real answer is that these cars are so special that you really need to drive one. I love driving these, but I could never live with one as a daily driver.
Reply:the lotus elise all the way cus its fast, cost less, and gets like 25mpg
Reply:Depends what you want to use it for. You pretty much have every type of car built in that list. Lotus is built for a twisty low speed race track. Unless thats what you are using it for no its not better.

It handles very well because its very light. It doesnt have the power to do long high speed tracks. Its not going to be comfortable for street use. Not enough power for drag racing. Its got a Toyota 1.8 L I4 with 190 hp.

Mustang and GTO are the best all around cars in the group. Big enough to live with as a daily driver (has a back seat). Affordable. Reasonably fast on a drag strip or a road track.
Reply:depends what kind
Reply:It would beat all of them in a race because of its great handling and acceleration, but its top speed is slower than a viper, gto, bmw, and 350z. Its top speed is faster than the mustang, mr2, and montecarlo.
Reply:Lotus cars are a the elite of their class- pure sports cars.

Because they are now using a Toyota power train, these type part be easy to find (if you don't scram the engine).

But don't wreck the thing as the body is not easily fixed (if at all)

This is one line of automobiles that I might consider trading my Miata in for.

Excellent mileage, great performance, and a joy to drive

http://www.grouplotus.com/grp/
Reply:It depends if your talking about top speed or a 1/4 mile. The Lotus Elise is quick of the back because of its light weight. It runs off a 1.4L (I think) 190hp Toyota engine, so its good on gas. Personally the Lotus is a good car to have, as long it is not your primary means of transportation. The Dodge Viper absolutely kills everything that you listed and is now where near in the same class. Go Viper if you have the $$$. The MR2 is discontinued, and for the Monte Carlo to be considered it needs to be a SS. AS the car to have for a while, I would go with the Mustang GT. Its sporty for just you and has 4 seats just in case you have some company, unlike the 350Z, and its cheaper. Beamers maintenace can be expensive, and ford is just the safe way to go. Good luck with your decision, have fun, and be safe.

Are Lotus legal to drive in the US?

I am assuming you are referring to the older models like the Elite and Elan, and not the newer Elise. All these models are legal to drive in the US as long as they were either sold new here or gray market conversions to US DOT Standards.

Are Lotus legal to drive in the US?
yup - as long as the new ones have the appropriate safety and emmissions equipment - they sure are!
Reply:Yes, but ownership may be in question.

US citizens face restrictions based on state and national law.
Reply:Of course they are. I usually see Lotus's on the road, but not often. There is nothing that makes them illegal to drive in the US.

Using Lotus Notes, how do I forward all e-mails that go to my e-mail address to another e-mail address?

I would like to have them automatically forwarded to my personal e-mail account as opposed to my work account.

Using Lotus Notes, how do I forward all e-mails that go to my e-mail address to another e-mail address?
If you are using a version earlier than R6, you'll have to create a simple agent. Open your mail file, from the create menu, choose Agent. In the properties box, change the runtime trigger to "After new mail arrives." Click on the Add Action button, change the action to "Send Mail Message," enter your personal email address, click on the More... button and enter Subject as a formula in the Subject field (this is a field name and will basically forward the actual subject along with the forwarded email). Check the box to include a copy of the document with the email.

If using R6+, expand tools in the left navigator and open the Rules view. Click on the create rule button. Add "All Documents" to the condition, then add "Send copy to" to the specified action - you'll be prompted to add your email address.

If you wish to not keep a copy in your work email, there are options to delete the email using either the rule or the agent, but its probably easiest to just add your personal email address to the mail forwarding field in your person document in the Domino server addressbook. This last option bypasses your work mailbox altogether.

In Lotus Notes 6.5, how can I get my calendar to change colors to detect when someone is viewing my calendar.?

Ex. My calendar entries are blue but if someone was viewing my calendar at the same time I was, the calendar entries would be light blue.

In Lotus Notes 6.5, how can I get my calendar to change colors to detect when someone is viewing my calendar.?
Native Notes can not detect that a document is currently read by someone else (but can detect if it is edited by someone else, = doc locking mecanism)...

.. but we can imagine that you redevelop your Calendar database (mailxx.nsf), so that when a user has opened a document, then it changes a flag-color field with Current value+1 for example (and save the document so) ... when it closes the document, then the flag-color field has to be changed to Current Value-1.

The calendar view has to be changed to handle color document, using this new flag field: blue color+flag-color field value (never done that, but I think this is possible).

This way when you enter in your calendar (same replica !!!), you can see which document is currently opened.

... good luck ;)

Does lotus notes have a grammar check like microsoft word?

I use Lotus Notes email in work and it has a spell checker (although it's a bit temperamental at times and erases what has been written!). Other than that there are no grammar checks.

Perhaps write emails (if it's emails you're referring to) in MS Word then copy and paste into the Lotus program?

Yes to all of the above. The Exige in particular is considered on of the best handling cars out there.

There is a British Show called topgear where they test all sorts of cars. The elise performed better than lamborghinis, porsches, aston martins and god knows what else.

The Exige S was like only 1 second behind a Pagani Zonda!!!

Is lotus computers...best computers ever or scam?
Well considering that there web site is not even functioning correctly and you can't buy anything online or configure anything either I would say pass on this deal. Ask the rep how long the have been doing business, and what warranties they offer. Then ask who is the underwriter for the warranties is. If they pause on any of these questions it's a straight scam. They may just be starting out though.

i have sanctioned authority to my boss/ but sometime it pick up the server name in that field / means it show this form is sanctioned by server/

In lotus notes sometime it pickup the server name instead of username why for sanctioned a form?
What you are describing sounds like the difference when code is running locally on the client computer or remotely on the server. On the client computer the user is the user, on the server the user is the server.

Maybe the application is being used sometimes in the notes client and sometimes via a web browser. Or maybe sometimes on the local replica of the database and sometimes on the server replica of the database.

You probably need to get a programmer (not sure if this is you) to do some investigation - get them to also look for Queryopen and Querysave code.

Lotus elise maintenance cost?

how much is oil change, i heard it's expensive

and other maintenace cost at the dealer ship??

and are they easy to maintenace at local shops??

Lotus elise maintenance cost?
If you have to ask....

The Elise for those who don't know uses the same engine as the Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix. That means it uses the same oil and the same filter, etc.

Everything else is limited production British cottage industry stuff so no, you won't be readily servicable anywhere.
Reply:Yes, it cost $150-350. You have to remove the bottom panels in order to access the oil filter and plug which is time consuming task. It uses the toyota oil filter but 5w40 synthetic oil, which is not very common.

Some owners change oil at home. You just need ramps and a lot of time.

Lifting the Elise can be tricky. One tire shop dropped Elise because they didn't know how to lift Elise. Again, bottom panel makes it difficult. Most owners use Lotus dealers.
Reply:That's the body the Tesla Electric uses! No oil changes required!

Why should it be different than any other car? Oil changes can run from $15 to $45 depending on where you take it.

Dealers always charge too much. I go to them for parts only. When I have to.
Reply:I read that it was over $250 at most dealerships to get an oil change done for the new lotus elise and that most local shops won't touch it unless you find a good one that isn't afraid too, but then still you would probably pay at least half that. As far as other maintainence goes, join a Lotus Elise forum and ask around, im sure they will tell you good estimates and i bet most of them pay a lot!

Lotus Elise S2 (K Series Engine) Over heatingTemp gaude up and down like a Yoyo?

I have just had it back from the garage yesterday as it went in for some work it started running very lumpy one day , I thought it was just going to be an easy fix as it was always running spot on. It has been there for 4 months!! and finally picked it up yesterday. After a long string of testing on the engine etc he said he thinks it was the ecu so he changed that but that one got wrecked due to a power surge ? so he advised me to get another one a (Emerald ) aftermarket one and i agreed that he may as well do some other minor work to tune slightly which are ( Decat pipe and a TIG Air filter) so with the emerald it should be a great accompliment . Anyway i drove it home from the garage to find out the tept gauge is up and down running from 80 degs to 119 !!! and some steam ????? I was not happy . It was sticking to 97 most of the way and popping up over the 100 then coming down (The Fan kicking in) any ideas what this could be ?HELP

Lotus Tesla???

Its NOT on their website!!!

I want to know where the Tesla is sold, how much is asking price by dealers.

Can Anyone Help???

10pts. to whoever can answer my question with a good answer

Lotus Tesla???
Lotus does not make the tesla roadster.

The Tesla Roadster looks like the lotus Elise because the design was based on the lotus Elise.

There will only be 5 service centers/Tesla Dealerships. The Tesla dealerships and service centers are in Chicago, Southern and Northern California, Florida, and New York.

You can only buy and service Tesla's in at the Tesla centers in those states.

The Tesla Roadster will sell for $92,000.

Tesla will make a sedan for 2009 that will cost around $50,000.

Lotus and watter lily question?

does anyone have any hands on expierence growing these flowers? what would be a reasonnable price to pay fort hem and where do i buy them?

Lotus and watter lily question?
i grow hardy water lilies in my pond, they are quite easy to grow . i just pop them in to a pot it with some fertilizer every year for water garden and they just thrive. not much maintaining either, just cut off dead leaves and flower to keep the water clear and the look a bit cleaner. you can leave the hardy variety in the water through winter but take the tropical lotus and lily up and in a unheated garage.

the price are depend on the variety but most are less than $20 ( smaller plants go for only $5-10) most nursery carry them so just ask, they'll show you
Reply:Many garden centers are carrying the plants already in pots, but they tend to be pretty expensive for what you get ($20 each). I found some in the spring at Wal-Mart (of all places) sold in a cardboard box for $10. Inside, the root was bare and it came with some clay powder and a plastic tray to put it into, some stones to weigh it down. It didn't look like much, but actually grew pretty well and bloomed the first year.
Reply:For hardy lilies you don't need to pay more than 10-15 dollars. They are very prolific growers and will fill a sizable pot in one season. For tropicals, you will probably need to special order those. They can cost anywhere from 20 to 60 dollars, depending on your tastes. Depending on where you live, you might have the handle them differently if you want them to over winter.

Lotus are more expensive, but the growth habit is similar. I have a chawan basu I paid about 40 dollars for that does very well. The only drawback with lotus that I have is that they only flower for a fairly short period in late spring and early summer. After that, it's just a foliage show. Maybe other types work differently.

Depending on where you live, you should be able to find lilies and lotus locally at garden centers that carry pond equipment and plants. One good source of tropical lilies is Lilypons.

Lotus Notes in box empty?

Somehow all my messages from my inbox got moved into my "views all documents". I have no idea how this happened or how to get my old messages and any new messages to go to my inbox. This is my e-mail for my work. Any suggestions?

Lotus Notes in box empty?
You should know that with Lotus Notes there is only one copy of each document in your mail file, and that Views and Folders are nothing more than pointers to those documents. The All Documents view uses a formula to determine which documents are to be displayed there, and you cannot manually add or remove documents from this view. The In-box however is just like a personal folder where you can add or remove documents as you please, and obviously it is also the designated folder where new messages are automatically sent. I think one of three things could have happened here.

1. If it seems only your previously read documents have disappeared, then you probably clicked on the "View Unread" button that is on the far right of the toolbar. If you now see a button on the far right that says "View All," click on that and all of your previously read In-box documents will be displayed again.

2. The design of your In-box has become corrupt and was deleted before being replace by your Notes admin. You may check with the admin to see if this happened, and whether your In-box docs were first moved into a personal folder.

3. You selected all of your documents and either moved them to a personal folder, or removed them all together. I'm sure you would have remembered doing this, so hopefully #1 above solves your problem.

Lotus Oil from Clarins?

Any opinions on this product?

Lotus Oil from Clarins?
Honestly, from my experience Clarins didn't really work. It actually damaged my skin and made it very dry. A couple of my girlfriends tried it as well and the same happened to them. But I guess it depends on the different types of skin...Try it and see what happens for you, if your skin gets dry then just switch to your old product... =)

Lotus birth, or leaving the cord attached instead of cutting it?

Has anyone out there done this? What do you think of it?

Instead of clamping and cutting the umbilical cord immediately or shortly after baby's birth, leaving it attached (with the placenta) until it falls off on its own (within a week or two)?

I am planning on doing this when my baby is born. Wanted to hear from others on this, see what the "knee jerk reaction" is, see how it went for others. And so forth.

Also anyone who knows of complications that could arise by this method, please provide me with references and sources.

Thanks so much for your time.

Lotus birth, or leaving the cord attached instead of cutting it?
I never heard of this so I googled it and I must say I am taken aback...it looks gross
Reply:NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT IT, SOUNDS DIFFERENT!
Reply:My instant reaction is "Why in the world would you want to do that?"
Reply:Oh wow. I've never even heard of this before. That's interesting. I wouldn't want to do it myself but if that's what floats your boat then do it. The only part I find kinda gross is the eating it part. Sorry, just not for me.
Reply:Not so sure about this one! With all 3 births we waited a good while til the cord had stopped pulsating, therefore stopped doing its job, before cutting it. We kept all 3 placentas, which we subsequently buried. I would say that believe me, the placenta is not only weighty, but it starts to smell quite offensive after not very long. It is a large and bloody thing, which has provided your baby with everything it possibly can whilst in the womb. It would be pretty impractical to say the least. Surely with your baby's new life it is time to say goodbye to the old? Wishing you a beautiful birth whatever you do..
Reply:hmm i wonder what all of tehse people thought they did before they had belly botton clamps and doctors and such - they did just that! do what you feel comfy with:)
Reply:You're going to leave the long cord and the placenta attached to your new baby for a week - Ewww! My daughter's stub fell off at 8 days old with no problems. Wouldn't carrying around a placenta be awkward and wouldn't it start decaying. Just sounds gross to me.
Reply:I'm a member of Mothering dot Commune and there are plenty of moms there who have had lotus births. You can read their birth stories there. Just follow the link and look up lotus birth in their search engine.

http://www.mothering.com/discussions

Personally, I'm not sure what benefit there is to be had once the placenta stops functioning. There are certainly benefits from prolonging cord clamping and cutting, but once the cord stops pulsing I'm not sure what more the baby can gain from its placenta.
Reply:I know of two women who did this and the cord fell off in only 4-5 days in both cases. The only complication is the odor that can occur. Otherwise, it is no different than complications that come from a stump. Diapers and clothing (as well as swabbing with alcohol) actually delay the drying of the cord. It normally falls off in less than a week otherwise. Did you know that?

Every animal that I know of chomps off the placenta leaving only a short cord. I see no real benefit to the Lotus method.

Edited to add: folks, ONLY THE CORD is kept attached. The placenta is tied off and removed.

Yes, you can ask your doctor (remind him just before the birth) that you want him to wait to clamp until after it stops pulsating. The only exception is if your baby has RH disease (but you would know that already). If there are problems with a wrapped cord, of course, the doc has no choice but to clamp, sometimes before the baby is even all the way out, but I'm talking about a normal, uncomplicated birth. There are studies that do show that waiting until the baby gets all the blood from the cord results in far higher iron levels and oxygen saturation. The cord blood continues to supply oxygenation, which is useful if the baby isn't breathing immediately.
Reply:That is an interesting concept, but it makes sense. Did they cut it off 100 years ago...? Or was it left on? I might do some reading on this.
Reply:If you like it, do it. Your baby is your business. I wouldn't choose to do it, but that is my own choice. I saved my children's placentas to plant when we buy a house. Some people freak about that, even.

People fear what they do not know.

A few women I have met have used herbs and sea salt on the placenta to help with any odors that might arise.

:)
Reply:I definately agree that the cord should not be cut until it has completely stopped pulsating, and the placenta has been born. (naturaly detatched vs tearing it out of you, as is the practice of at least 1 hospital in NW Florida.)

I strongly believe that when the baby comes through such a tight "canal" when born, that a good portion of the blood would be pushed back in to the placenta, therefore it makes perfect sense to leave it attatched until it is done pulsating, and sealing off the various holes in the heart, etc...

I also strongly believe that clamping the cord within minutes, and sometimes only seconds of birth, and as Doodlestuff stated: that if it is wrapped around the baby's neck, they cut it before the baby is even out, rather than just unwrapping it, as they did when my son was born, robs the baby of a good portion of it's blood, and oxygen at birth resulting in low apgar scores, blueish tinge, lethargy, respiratory distress, and who knows what other problems blood and oxygen deprivation at birth can cause later in life. I really really wonder if there is a connection to Autism, as well as vaccinating babies, who are too young and too small, and giving them 37 different vaccinations by the time they are 18 months old. When you combine the two factors, along with all the crap that they use in vaccinations, it almost makes sense.

I REALLY wonder if there is a relation to early cord clamping and Autism, and ADHD and the fact that the rates have risen so drastically in the last 20 years. When I had my children, the Dr. always waited untill the cord stopped pulsating before he clamped it, and waited for the placenta to come out on it's own. I don't know when the practice of early cord clamping started, but I have serious reservations about the practice of doing so.

Now as far as the Lotus Method, that is a personal choice you must make, and I no you will research the h*ll out of it, before you make any decisions. I myself would probably be too grossed out by it, especially in my younger years when my children were born. I am aware also that it is very nutritious for the mother to eat at least a portion of the placenta, and that it contains a lot of iron and vitamin K, which are necessary if one is breastfeeding. There are probably cultures that do just that. I do remember our cats and dogs licking the puppies clean, and there was never a placenta, or membranes left laying around, and when the cows had their calves, that they immediately ate the placenta, and many mammals do for both the nutrition, and preditor factors.
Reply:never done it... think it sounds interesting. though I have to say sorry, no way am I consuming any of it!!! LOL, you took a step passed hippie, granola, mother Earth for my taste

I do know of a few friends who at least wait until the cord stops pulsating before cutting it. I do plan on asking my ob next time we have a baby about doing this. Though I'll have a scheduled csection again (previous CLASSICAL csection, my uterus has 2 scars that look like an anchor making my risk of an unsuccessful VBAC too great for me to consider).

If you do all this stuff, repost with an update... I'd love to hear the results!!!
Reply:Seriously, that doesn't sound too healthy. The placenta is meant to be detached at birth.

************

This Lotus Birth kept the placenta attached until the cord fell off.

http://www.naturalfamilyco.com/graphics/...
Reply:Never heard of it, but find it intriguing! My older sis who is having her first birth (hopefully at home) might like to learn about this! For my first child, we tried doing the not cutting until the cord stop pulsing, which we accomplished, but also wanted to wait until it dried out. However, doctors were ignorant and annoying so we just agreed to finally cut it. My second we had no chance because of difficulties so I cut him immediately. My next child, I could also consider doing something similar, but might be too anxious to wait for 3-7 days, so we'll see! Thank you for bring this to mind though!
Reply:I didn't cut the cord for nearly 7 hours, but lugging the placenta around until it falls off just doesn't appeal to me. I probably would have cut the cord after an hour or so but we just couldn't seem to get around to it.

I completely agree that the cord should not be cut until it closes on its own and preferably not until the placenta has been birthed, which can take a fair amount of time I suppose.

My sons umbilical cord stump fell off on the 5th day, if that helps you any.

(PS umbilical cords are COLD, holy cow once they stop being full of blood they are like ICE)

-----------

Just for the other people you SALT the placenta to stop it from rotting. Seriously people.

Saturday's Child 56:

Animals do not cut/bite the cord until after the placenta is born. If you were to immediately cut/bite through the cord after birth the baby would bleed to death. Many times the animal leaves the placenta for even longer than that, they have other things to attend to such as making sure to lick the entire baby/babies to make sure that they are dry, no membrane remains anywhere important, and licking also stimulates breathing.

It was a mere 100 years ago that immediate cord clamping was grounds for a doctor to loose their license at best, and serve jail time and other possible worse penalties. Cutting the cord before it stopped pulsating got you a tribunal, now there are rare cases in which it is necessary the obvious one being if the cord is already bleeding from another tear. Clamping it is obviously necessary to save the life of the child.

http://neoreviews.aappublications.org/cg...

"Another thing very injurious to the child is the tying and cutting of the navel string too soon, which should always be left till the child has not only repeatedly breathed but till all pulsation in the cord ceases. As otherwise the child is much weaker than it ought to be, a part of the blood being left in the placenta which ought to have been in the child and at the same time the placenta does not so naturally collapse and withdraw itself from the sides of the uterus, and is not therefore removed with so much safety and certainty."—Erasmus Darwin (1801) (1)

http://www.whale.to/a/cord4.html

1842 Meigs: Regarding clamping a cord around the neck:

“The head is born: perhaps the cord is turned once, or even more than once around the child’s neck, which it encircles so closely as to strangulate it. Let the loop be loosened to enable it to be cast off over the head. … [or] by slipping it down over the shoulders. … If this seems impossible, it should be left alone; and in the great majority of cases, it will not prevent the birth from taking place, after which the cord may be cast off. … Should the child be detained by the tightness of the cord, as does rarely happen, … the funis may be cut … Under such a necessity as this, a due respect for one’s own reputation should induce him to explain, to the bystanders, the reasons which rendered so considerable a departure from the ordinary practice so indispensable. I have known an accoucheur’s capability called harshly into question upon this very point of practice. I have never felt it necessary to do it but once. … The cord should not be cut until the pulsations have ceased.”

Meigs C. Professor of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children, Jefferson Medical College. A Philadelphia Practice of Midwifery, 1842
Reply:"Lotus birth, or Umbilical Nonseverance,is the practice of leaving the umbilical cord intact following birth, allowing the physiological process of the cord substance known as Wharton's jelly to naturally seal the cord within 10-20 minutes postpartum."

Actually, after reading about the process, I can see the benefits of leaving the cord uncut until it has naturally sealed (10-20 minutes)... I can also see the point in allowing the placenta to detach naturally... after all, our bodies are MEANT to perform this function...

As far as complications, the germ factor would be my biggest concern, followed by fear of tearing the cord off if the placenta should be dropped...

If this is something you're considering, either in part or fully, discuss it with your doctor and your hospital/birthing center... SOP is to discard the placenta... make sure they are aware of your wishes/rights!
Reply:What is the purpose of doing this? Does it provide any benefits to the child?
Reply:I never heard of that. It would scare me but if you have a professional with you then go for it.
Reply:never heard of it but won't the baby get blood poisoning as the placenta rots and it goes into the baby's system vie the cord? it'd be interesting to know.

Where did you hear about doing this? it doesn't sound healthy even animals cut the cord
Reply:There must be a good reason that doctors have always cut the cord soon after birth. I would be very concerned with the bad things that could happen from having a rotting peice of unneccesary flesh still attached to my baby. (Like infections) Also I don't beleive for a minute that anything flows from the placenta to the baby for any longer than the first few seconds after birth. Even in the animal kingdom instinct tells the mother cat, dog, etc to bite the cord right after birth, so how can you think leaving it on is natural? Bottom line - if you want to delay cutting it, delay by a few minutes, not a few days!
Reply:I've never heard of this before... Um, some problems that could occur is infection and infant death... If you leave the baby attached to the umbilical cord it may not ever learn to breath or perform other bodily functions normally...

Good luck with that though...
Reply:Reaction? Eeeeeeuw!

You intend leaving a lump of rotting offal attached to your baby for upwards of 10 days? Sounds like a recipe for a fatal infection to me. Once the cord stops pulsating, its job is done.

Wild animals then break the cord. Often, they eat the placenta as a source of protein WHILE IT'S FRESH.

Please tell me this is a wind-up. If you're serious, YOU discuss it with your midwife and research the potential hazards. If you go ahead, I hope she rings Child Protection.

Lotus cars. What about them? Why you see not to many around?

Ilike that car and i don't consider it as a very expensive one... but, I don't see too many out there? Do they have some bad reputation?

Lotus cars. What about them? Why you see not to many around?
There expensive, and share a road of life in Italy, Ireland etc. There not usually american. Such as Renault, Peugot etc. about 30-35k for a lotus elise to be exact...
Reply:They are pricey by allot of peeps standards.
Reply:Lotus cars, for having such a reasonable price, are very rare on the west coast except for the OC. The only reason y a lot of them arent seen are beacause they are primarily european cars, just imported to america. If u ever get the chance to travel to a wealthy european or austrailian city, they are actually slightly common and can be bought for around the same price. They are very good cars, especially the exige. It is ranked as one of the best handling cars and can be driven very fast. To learn more about good european cars similar to the lotus, i would sugest watching any episodes (if you can find it) of Top Gear. It is shown on BBC in england and is very exciting. The website http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/ has great webisodes. I haven't found any lotus yet but it will probably be somwhere on Youtube etc.
Reply:i have no idea their very cheap 30grand.
Reply:to much money for the regular person
Reply:Way back in the day they weren't considered that reliable, and they didn't have the power of other cars in their price range.
Reply:I love them too, but they have crappy financing deals. I was comparing an Elise with a BMW 335i. About the same price, but leasing or financing the lotus would have cost more than twice as much per month as the 335. If you are paying cash up front then Lotus all the way.

I live in So Cal so you do see them around. There is a dealer a few miles from my work.
Reply:I see a few of them out there, even though they only cost about $35,000. I'm surprised that only a few people are buying them.
Reply:They are very rare here in America, but they are common in parts of Europe.

Lotus Notes?

My brother viewed a colleague's mailbox at work without permission. He previewed the unread messages so it wouldn't show as read on their inbox or send any read receipts.

However when he went into the Views%26gt;All documents folder, it showed about 6 emails (about the same number he read), and under 'who' it showed his name. It showed the time too. If 'all documents' shows everything - inbox/outbox/drafts etc, I can understand why there'd a few emails there, as he's sent/received a few emails to his colleague. However why would the time show as when he (naughtily I know) read them from his colleague's mailbox, and not when the email was sent or received?

Please don't tell me he's done wrong etc - he knows this and is sh*tting it, but we are worried about why it would show the time as when he looked at it from the colleague's mailbox under the Views%26gt;All Documents folder.

Isuzu Impulse and Isuzu I-Mark and Stylus, Opel Senator/Omega on the Lotus Carlton models and the Vauxhall VX220/Opel Speedster.

What car had the lotus suspension but wasn't a lotus?
The 1965 Ford/Lotus Cortina had Lotus suspension, but it was advertised as having been created by both Ford and Lotus.

Lotus designer Roger Becker did a lot of work on the Toyota MR2, but as the production spec. was finalized by Toyota so it could not be considered having Lotus suspension.

Several Isuzu models utilized Lotus suspension on the front end.

Lotus vs. Benz...?

What's better, Elise or SLK280?

PERFORMANCE ONLY...

Lotus vs. Benz...?
Performance only, I vote Lotus. I have driven both of these cars.

Best choice for you depends on where you live. If there is a lotus dealer in your City or near to you, go for it. If not, you will spend a lot of money transporting it to the dealership. the lotus is powered by a Toyota engine (modified) and is a really excellent performer. Seriously fun. It is smaller and definitely less comfortable than the Benz. The Mercedes is an excellent relationship between performance and comfort and is also big on style. That said, there are not nearly as many Loti (plural of lotus) around. If you are looking for impressing chicks, either one will work. If you are looking for a daily driver, Benz all the way. The Lotus will only go about 150 miles on a tank of gas. It is built for speed and agility, not comfort. No matter what, go with the touring package if you get the Lotus. It includes non racing items like sound insulation. That should tell you what you are dealing with when sound insulation is an option. Good luck. I am jealous as hell. I loved driving both and for different reasons.
Reply:Lotus
Reply:Depends entirely on what you want as these are two dramatically different cars. The Elise is more in the classic sports car vein, being very light and no frills. And it will generally match performance of much higher priced vehicles (it's handling and grip are fantastic, though the engine is very peaky and if on track you generally drive this like a momentum car even though it has a very good power to weight ratio).

The Mercedes is much more of a GT car, much softer and more luxurious. It still offers some performance, and for most drivers, it's probably plenty of performance. This is really sort of like asking would you rather date Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt? Sure, both are attractive by most standards, but chances are for most people they would only really be interested in one and wouldn't face much of an issue in choosing between the two.
Reply:if you really had that much money, you wouldn't be here asking this question. there is a fine line between a dream and an hallucination.
Reply:I'LL GO WITH THE MERCEDES !!!

ALSO YOU SHOULD CHOOSE THE CAR FOR ITS QUALITY AND BECAUSE "YOU" LIKE IT !!!

NOT BECAUSE ITS A CHICK MAGNET !!!
Reply:The Elise only comes in manual transmission and is smaller than a Mazda Miata, go with the SLK (much less time at the dealership for 'glitches'). The Lotus is kind of a chick car due to it's tiny size. Mercedes are soooo common, why don't you go test drive the new BMW M6, you'll have to peel your face off the back of the seat!

If the recipient's mail client supports 'return receipt', you can have Lotus Notes notify you when the recipient reads a message you sent. Many Internet mail programs support return receipts. About two thirds down on the dialog, you'll see a section that's labeled Receiving, and a checkbox that's labeled Check for new mail every ___ minutes. I think by default it's 15 minutes. You should probably change it to 4 or 5 minutes.

After you make the change, click OK, and now you're set.

You should be able to export the data to different formats - find a format that the othe PC will support.

How can i share lotus notes database (nsf) with one who does not have the lotus notes program in his PC?
I don't think you can, to be honest. It would be like trying to share an Access database with someone who does not have MS Access. And given the fact that Notes is very proprietary, I seriously doubt there is any other program that will open it. There may be a framewrok style product out there, similar to the .NET framewrok that allows users to open them if they don't have Notes. But I used to develop Notes apps, and I wasn't aware of any such program then. You might check IBM's website, and do some searches for it. Good luck.

Lotus Exige S modification?

Where can I modify my car's body parts? I want to modify the doors so that it opens upwards instead of sidewards.

How much would it cost? Will we be using the same pair of doors or are we going to buy a new set?

I live in Irvine, California.

Lotus Exige S modification?
It would cost way to much, especially if you want rotational doors like a Lamborghini, but it may be worth it to impress Lolli.
Reply:It would cost a lot, and many manufactures claim that they can make your doors scissor, but in reality, they attach tape and a few nuts and bolts and glue it onto your door hinge. Be careful of who choose to upgrade your car.

Btw, I live in Irvine California too! If I see a Lotus Exige S, I'll know that it is you.

Lotus Notes doesn't start..?

What could possibly be the problem?

Lotus Notes doesn't start..?
Did you try rebooting your computer? Sometimes, when you don't exit Notes the correct way (like when it hangs), it leaves parts of itself behind in memory and won't allow you to start it up again because it thinks it's already running. If you bring up the Task Manager, you'll see little programs that start with NL*.exe. Rebooting your machine should clear them out.

Lotus Notes search results are all checked?

If I want to move one of them into a folder then they all move or delete one they are all deleted. How do I unselect these search results, so I can work with each one individually?

Lotus Notes search results are all checked?
Try expanding your search bar by clicking on the "More" button to the right. There you will find a field labeled "Sort results by." I believe if you change that to relevance, last modified, or first modified, the search results will not be checked and you will be able to check them yourself so they can be individually filed or deleted.

Lotus and watter Lilly's, can they be grown in sunken tubs?

I have several large plastic tubs and would like to know if they would be suitable for watter lillies and/or lotuses?

Lotus and watter Lilly's, can they be grown in sunken tubs?
When you say "sunken tubs" do you mean planting the plant in the tub of dirt an placing it underwater in a pond? If so then yes, they are often grown that way. Just make sure that the surface of the dirt is at the correct depth for the species you are growing. You can set the tub on blocks to raise it up if necessary. Growing them in tubs makes it easier to move, divide, or store tubers for winter.
Reply:Yes you can if the tubs are deep enough.

If they're too shallow, the water will overheat in summer.

Also make sure to run an oxygenator or a small pump to refresh the water.

Ideally the water should run via a small waterfall to pick up oxygen from the air.

If the water goes stale or dead, your plants will die as well.

Besides, you will end up with a stinking cesspool.

Keep it clean - remove dead plant material.

Also in warmer weather keep an eye on algea formation.

In short treat it like a pond and follow the same practices.

Here is a link to building a pond (one out of thousands)

http://watergarden.com/pages/build_wg.ht...
Reply:you sure can, plus you might put a fish or 2 in each tub, lotus is a good water purifier
Reply:Sure! If it can hold water, you can have a water garden.
Reply:Depending on the size of the tub, as far as lillies go, check out something small.

If you're definitely thinking about going with a lotus, check out Chawan Basu, Temple Dancer, or Baby Doll.

I wouldn't add any fish as the water will get way too hot for them. Add some mosquito dunks to the water to kill any mosquito larvae. Without fish, you won't need any kind of pump or filter as the plants will pull all of the CO2 that they need directly from photosynthesis.

Finally have fun and remember, ponding is addictive--you'll want more!

When using Outlook I can send email with 'on behalf of' in FROM entry. How to do it with Lotus Notes?

I need to set up the email account of one secretary to be able to send email 'on behalf of' her boss in Lotus notes. This can be done in outlook.

Example : FROM : Jenny Tan on behalf of Mr Smith

TO : MR. X

SUBJECT : Blah Blah Blah

When using Outlook I can send email with 'on behalf of' in FROM entry. How to do it with Lotus Notes?
The only way this can be done is to add the secretary to her boss' mailfile (the ACL). She then has to do file/database/open and select the server where her boss' mailfile is, then open his mail database. She can bookmark this for easy/quick subsequebt access. When she opens it, she will be in his mailbox and will now be able to send mail from him, with a statement similar to as you described. FROM: Bill Smith sent by Jenny Tan. It sucks, but then again Lotus Notes pretty much sucks.

Hi.I'm working w/ formulas in excel.I need to copy all the resulting values to Lotus Notes. Is that possible?

I've tried locking %26amp; hiding the formulas, but it copies everything (i.e.: borders, background color, etc). And I literally can't paste it to my Lotus Notes that way. I just need the values. Is there any way that I can do that? Thanks so much!

Hi.I'm working w/ formulas in excel.I need to copy all the resulting values to Lotus Notes. Is that possible?
If I understand correctly, you're looking to paste values only, with no formatting at all.

When pasting into Lotus Notes, excel automatically pastes things as an image. If you're trying to prevent that, copy your data, then go into your email and I believe under the Edit menu(or something to that effect) there should be an option for Paste Special.

Select that, then select Unformatted Text, or whatever option most closely resemebles that(it may be different based on your version).

This will past the text only, which will remove all formulas, formatting, boarders, and anything else.

How about an old Toyota Camry or something reliable. A 16 year old with a sports car is asking for trouble and to think of the insurance...please!!!!
Reply:Why would you park one of these on the street? Get a Honda or a Chevy for your 16 yr old, then when they graduate get a good car. Just my opinion.

A 16 year old doesn't have the driving experience to be driving either of those cars!!! Let him drive a nice 4 cylinder until he masters the art of turning corners, taking curves, and other important driving skills before you go getting him a sports car! What's wrong with a Toyota, a Lexus or an Infinity? Even a V6 is better. Do you know the statistics of young drivers and speed and the crashes that result from inexperienced drivers in cars that are too much for them to handle? Let him drive something less powerful for 2-3 years, and then when he's proven that he can drive responsibly, then you offer the Lotus of course. ;)
Reply:dont listen to sarah. she dont know whats she talking about. the lotus elise is a four cylinder engine. Im getting one this summer, and the best thing to do is do some reasearch and a test drive of course. GO LOTUS!!! Report It
Reply:go German. I like the old Lotus better. I'd think the Elise would be more difficult to drive. And insurance is through the roof.
Reply:How about a Kia !
Reply:Neither. A 16 year old is going to crash the car or damage it. Get something less valuable. And insurance costs alone of putting a 16 year old in a high end sports car is ridiculous. If you are concerned about gas prices, go with a hybrid. There are several affordable ones on the market, and will definitely be better suited for a teenager than a porsche or a lotus. Those cars are probably worth more than my parent's yearly income! Go with something more affordable.
Reply:god i hate you....... dont buy either buy a corolla and be done with it. a Porsche anything is too much car for a 16 year old. DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT AN ELISE their is no way a 16 year old could apreciate that cars performance or let alone use it. The elise is a track car you can drive on the street period
Reply:something easy on gas... unless you have a job...
Reply:This question makes me sick. Who is buying this car for a 16 year old kid? The question should sound like:

"1989 Chevy Celebrity or a 1993 Ford Escort"
Reply:I think Cayman better meets your requirements.
Reply:You should probably go with the porsche, because if youre worried about theft the porsche is not as striking / headturning and that makes it a little better, but it is also better quality than a lotus.
Reply:toyota

better MPG

you attract less attention

and you dont have to worry about scratching it up

because you can get like 20 of them for the same amount of money

with a car like a porsche or a lotus you get... 1 :P
Reply:a 16 year old shouldn't have anything TOO flashy, but it should be reliable. I wouldn't buy anything too pricy especially if its being drivin to school.. you never know what other kids could do to it. Besides, your first car should be nothing special anyway..
Reply:I REFUSE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION BCUS U ARE A RICH MO-FO (GET THE LOTUS IT LOOKS BETTER)

Reply:Chevy Cobalt.less chance of it getting stolen.
Reply:How about a '79 El Dorado...so you won't risk it getting stolen...

Reply:Lotus Elise. I drove one in Newport Beach, CA and they are fun. Not near the power I have with my Viper though.

Enjoy and have fun!!!
Reply:How about a car that they buy with money they earn themselves?

They'll respect it more, get in less accident's (either caused by themselves or their boyfriend who promised to be really carefull)

And your insurance will be lower, it's a win win situation

You may need to add a Lotus Notes connector to your Exchange environment. Try this link to get started: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906169/e...

Notes and Exchange have issues communicating, especially anything other than basic SMTP (e-mail) traffic. There are a number of articles in the MS KB regarding this. Go here to start a more complete search: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv...

Do I need to activate international roaming while travelling abroad? I have already bought Golden Lotus card.?
I know that with TMobile you need to unlock roaming permissions before you can call while you are overseas. Word of caution, follow the instructions carefully. A lot of people hit the send key after entering the calling card number. If you do that it will deduct from the calling card and charge you the roaming rate on your phone. It is a common mistake that A LOT of people make.

Why do we enter the IP of mail server in host file when we use Lotus Notes and not when we use Yahoo Mail?

I use Lotus Notes Client to connect to mail server but in order to access the mail server i have to make entry of its IP in host file. But while using yahoo mail we dont make its corresponding IP entry in host file. Can anybody tell me when do we need to make an entry in host file and when we dont need?

Why do we enter the IP of mail server in host file when we use Lotus Notes and not when we use Yahoo Mail?
It sounds like whoever set up the notes server decided again using DNS... So you are essentially using the hosts file to turn the server name into the correct IP address for the server.

Yahoo mail, being a web based mail server, has DNS set up on the internet, so your computer can already determine the IP address of Yahoo.com
Reply:Lotus notes is a Third party software which uses the IP address to connect to the corresponding mail server you wish to access e-mails. While Yahoo, an OSP, i.e online service provider, has already IP system set up to its server so that user do not have to make the OSP recognise which server it has to connect to.

I want to buy a new sports car, but i debating between porsche, bmw or lotus?

These are my requirements for the car.

1) I want a sports car, something that people dont see everyday. I would like it to have sports characteristics.

2)must have enough trunk space for a hockey bag

3) Needs to have a confortable interior, comfortable for long drives.

4) the car must be able to drive in winter--%26gt; i live in toronto canada. It needs to be a year round car.

5) If possible i would like it to be good on gas.

Now i have been debating between the lotus elise, porche boxster or cayman, or the BMW z4 or M6.

Thanks for all your help

I want to buy a new sports car, but i debating between porsche, bmw or lotus?
I'd go for the Z4 Coupe. Not commonly seen, good trunk space (it's a hatchback, basically), and a good performer.

The only caution is that no RWD car is going to be really effective in snow. "Fast" is also generally mutually exclusive with "fuel-efficient." You may want to consider the Audi S4, which is plenty fast and is also AWD.
Reply:I'd go for the BMW , Navy blue.luvvvvverrly
Reply:bmw
Reply:trying to make up for a tiny weenie?
Reply:You can get a 2008 BMW 335xi Coupe, that's an awd twin turbo 2 door, that'll do great in the winter, and eat asphalt in the summer. And it has a trunk big enough for the hockey bag, fold down the rear seat and you can put your sticks in as well.
Reply:Between those, get the Lotus lol. If you want somethign people dont see everyday. The porsche is very common, as is the BMW, and i've grown out of considering the BMW a sports car at all. It's more performance luxury in my opinion. As far as gas milage, get a Toyota Prius for that lol, moreover it'l help the environment. I'm not sure what kind of mpg your'e trying to pull from a "sports car" but it can't be nearly as good as what you COULD be getting in a green vehicle.
Reply:go with the M6 theyre really nice super fast and rare the lotus is too light to be driving alot in the snow and i personally think porche's arent that rare and yeah the M6 will be able to fit a bag i fit my and my friends bag in his yay for hockey players

In China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, footbinding was done to represent the lotus flower?

Whats so significant about the lotus flower?

I dont see anything special about it...

In China during the Ming and Qing dynasties, footbinding was done to represent the lotus flower?
China has a lot of Buddhists. I think this will help.

Between the mountains there were many rivers, flowing in all directions along 100 different routes, moving slowly downhill, without waves. The rivers were shallow and their banks weren't steep, making them easy to ford. The water in them was clean and pure, and flowers floated on the surface in abundance. The currents were full of them.

The lotus was the first flower appearing in a world of water

Legend says that when the Buddha was born, he walked seven steps in ten directions and with each step a lotus flower appeared. Look closely at the soles of his feet when you see a statue of Buddha — you may see the imprint of the lotus

Do I need to buy the Lotus 123 software on CD disks? Can I convert my "old" Lotus 123 files into a different format and import them into the Microsoft Works Spreadsheet on my new computer. Thanks so much. I sincerely appreciate your help.

You can get a USB floppy pretty cheap, but if you were running that Lotus on 98, ther's a good chance it won't work on XP.
Reply:What are the requirements for lotus 123. It may not work on your new computer may have issues. May be best to upgrade. Yes you can buy an external and install it that way. I would honestly buy one use it see if it works and then just return drive to store for refund. You dont really need one anymore.
Reply:Very easy. Go to your nearest CompUSA and ask for an external floppy. Or alternately, go to an Internet computer seller (I use Newegg.com) and so a search for USB floppy. They cost about $20. (I imagine that is quite a bit less than new software on CD)

I would think that most sewing stores could help you. I'm not sure if Simplicity, Mc Call's, Butterwick%26lt; etc have their own websites for patterns... but you can try.

No, there is no free online copy of this book. It is still under copyright, so the only way to read it for free would be at the library.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using ms excel same goes to lotus 1-2-3?

advantages and disadvantages of ms excel and lotus 1-2-3 anyone??

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using ms excel same goes to lotus 1-2-3?
I can tell you lots of advantages for MS Excel:

Compatability. A lot of people use Microsoft Office, a lot fewer use Lotus, without converting files, more people will be able to use it. Even open office and google apps can use MS Excel files natively.

VBA. MS Excel allows you to use standard visual basic code. Using this, you can do virtually anything with excel.

Compatability to databases and other software, you can use excel easily with access databases when you decide you need to archive your database and allow multiple users at once.

Disadvantages for Lotus. I don't think it is being developed anymore. There are no updates, no better versions or improvements coming out. Last release was in 2002. There is a link to 123.

I am more knowledgeable about the features of excel. With all of the formulas and VBA functions that Excel has, it would be hard not to choose it as a winner. You can pick up an educational license excel for under $50. Price shouldn't be an issue to learn on.
Reply:Certainly, Excel is considered to be the Standard today. It will give you the option of more professional appearance and with Virtual Basic it allows a higher level of macro functions. All of this means the programming is more complicated for the average user. I learned on 123 and like it for creating macros. In some respects it is easier to use than Excel. The downside is that it isn't being improved today, mainly because the popularity of Excel. I hate to see it disappear but technology marches on.

Bottom line - if you are writing your own spreadsheets it would be easier to write macros in 123. Your sheets won't look as professional and if you share them with someone who uses Excel they can open a 123 file.

If you can get a good price on Excel or if you want to use Open Office (a free Excel lookalike) and your usage is not too complicated don't get 123.

I use both so it is somewhat a tossup but (and I hate to say it) Excel is the future.
