How can i grow lotus?

i live in a very hot and dry country.. i have an artificial pond that i made so i was just wondering how i can plant it in and get it to live long?

How can i grow lotus?
I have never been successful at growing lotus (I live where it is hot and dry, too). However, I have been told it is fairly easy if you take the time to pot the tuber correctly (planting instructions should come with the plant - if not, be sure not to pot it any deeper than it is at the time you got it, and give it plenty of room for the roots to spread out). Plus, they are heavy feeders so some fertilizer tabs specially formulated for water plants are in order. I have been told you want to be sure to plant them in a container, so that their roots are contained, or else, if they really like your pond, they could take over the whole thing!!

A friend of mine who grows amazing lotus told me to be sure not to cut any of the stems, even if they are yellowing or have just plain turned brown. If you do, lotus stems are hollow and water will get in them, go down to the tuber, and eventually cause it to rot.

Not much help, I'm afraid. Sorry!
